Bit the bullet today and done the exhaust mod on the M800 , pierced both baffles in each exhaust using a pointed piece of 20mm round-bar and the results----------------- brilliant what a difference, sounds really sweet now. Now the engine can breath you can appreciate just how much it was struggling before the mod . Invaluable advise from you guys again all.

Yes Dave, nice deep grunt to it now, I think the neighbours might sell up now but I'm toying with the idea of drilling the back plates now but don't want to overdo it, any thoughts on that m8 or

I can't remember proper, doesn't it make it sound deeper knocking holes in the baffle plate but makes it more farty but louder if you drill the end plates?

:cmate: Cheers Dave, I think I'll be giving it a go. You could get a bigger drill & open the holes up more rather than extra holes

Drilled the back plates this morning 4 x 10mm holes in each pipe, the same as DaveK :cmate: & I have to say I'm well pleased with the results , don't think I'm going any further now as I think the exhaust tone now is perfect for me, not overly loud but a nice throaty 'V' twin sound

Hi guys !
Without wishing to sound rude ... it might be a benefit to the rest of us if you show us a picture of your exhaust !
Or without getting ruder .... an 'end shot' would be nice !
At least this thread was not entitled 'How to bore out your (own) exhaust' Sorry - I know this is a serious thread - but the innuendo was killing me ......... .... seriously though .... I'm sure some pictures would be a big help to others.

Yam your right innuendo or not i can get the sound i was after untill i have the cash to get non stock i did step 1 first (punch the platas) used the bike for a bit just to be sure all was ok. then did step 2 (drill the holes) did 6mm first not that good then 10mm got the sound i was after
the guinea pig i used for step 1 was my old VL125 with the twin pipes got it a bit deeper even on that

Hi Dave K, Top man for posting a step by step guide .... ... & quite an easy mod then - I can understand why many people are in favour of it.
Looks like a tapered reamer is the way to go for enlarging the holes - you can get stepped reamers as well - the only drawback with most of the cheaper versions of these tools being that they tend to blunt easily - probably best running them a lower drill speeds - with a battery drill possibly being the best option & take it nice and slow. I did giggle a little during the punching out of the inner baffles, when Abe 'missed' with the hammer - & must have clonked the rim of the silencer ... OOppps
