| Hi, Just joined the forum & hoping to share info & the like. Like most bikers, I've had several toys, but I started with an unhealthy obsession with scooters. Just thought I'd introduce myself on the forum Here's my bike history so far. Be warned, some of it's eye candy, and some eye sore. Yamaha xc125 beluga/Riva. Air cooled 2v, SOHC, 4 stroke with a mighty 8bhp (sold) BMW C1, With 13:1 compression ratio and 4v DOHC, liquid cooled 4 stroke pumps out 15bhp, but a 200kg kerb weight and high Centre of gravity lets the package down. (ignoring the 2.4tonne rated roll cage and 4 point seat belts). Destroys front tyres in about 3,000 miles. (sold) Piaggio Hexagon GTX125, 15bhp, liquid cooled 4 stroke, 4v but SOHC, again pumps out the learner limit of 15bhp. Nice boot, good top speed, but feels like balancing on a barstool (sold) Piaggio Beverly B125 (up for sale soon), has same engine as the Hexagon, but larger 16" wheels for greater stability and surviving potholes Honda Varadero XL125V, Smooth 90 degree V-twin 125cc, DOHC, liquid cooled 4 stroke, 4v. Reasonable top speed of 75 if you've got the patience to wait for it. V congifuration spreads the torque curve out and make the engine more flexible with the gearing Also had a RWD Suzuki Cappuccino, with a 3 cyl, 12v, DOHC, 660cc turbo. (Basically a bike engined car). 700kg and 0-60 in 8 secs and was a lot of fun :) I picked up an old Honda Bros NT400. Spot on 33 BHP, 35Nm of torque and 0.15kw/kg

| So, since the above I've had a new Ninja 250r, and an SV1000s. The baby ninja was sold on pretty quickly, but the sv1000s stirred the need for torque. Unfortunately, my SV engine was past middle -age & I part ex'd for a FireBlade CBR954. The 'Blade was too fast & expensive for town work, so I picked up a rare Honda AX1 250cc enduro from the late 80s. Congrats if you've read this far, because I'm jjust getting to the point.I'm the proud owner of a bike which shares the VL800 engine. I recently bought a Sachs Roadster 800 For me, it's the perfect combination of traditional & modern. Shares much of the Suzuki vx800 frame, has 41mm Paoli usd forks, bitubotwin shocks, Grimca twin 320mm front discs, German ally rims with stainless steel wire spokes, plastic fuel tank, rear drum brake, shaft drive, 5 gears (with overdrive) & suzuki's (back torque limiting) slipper clutch. Basically a cruiser that's a relatively light 228kg kerb weight, modest amount of chrome & handles twisties excellently Hope you'll adopt a Sachs riding cousin to the fold | |

Got to be honest its the first time I have ever come across the Sachs, is this bike a German copy (ish) under licence of the Suzuki VX ? Cheers :) I think the Germans looked at the VX800 & thought they could do better. Suzuki had already supplied a few engines to Sachs before. I had been looking at getting a VX800 initially 'cos I liked the idea of a re-worked intruder engine, but the Sachs is exactly what I would have modded it to. From what I can tell, only the frame, rear brake, engine & transmission are Suzuki. The vx800 was a sales flop, so I guess suzuki wouldn't say no to shifting a few more units. First job is to see if an Intruder main stand will fit Thanks again for you kind welcomes. I'm in Sussex, so may be up at Rykas or Whiteways Cafe when it stops raining | |
