2002 vl 800 fuel sending

Glad to be here, hello, and i know someone can help me get this figured out. I just recently got myself a 2002 intruder vl 800 from an old friend. Didn't really want it cause there was alot wrong with it. Anyway i have managed to get everything working except the fuel meter, will not work, but there is 2 wires coming from the sending unit, a black wire and a black and white wire no plug just wires. There are 2 plugs visible, one under the fuel tank with a yellow wire and a black and white wire and there is another plug right by the battery box, pinkish color wire and a black and white wire. I have tried both plugs with the key on but no luck, anyone have an idea ? It is driving me nuts, i do not like to give in to a shop mechanic, pride i guess
