Subject: Connectors under the seat - OBD? Sat Dec 22, 2012 12:12 am
Happy Xmas everyone. Having got some time off to do some fettling (front brake overhaul and valve clearances on the cards) ...... noticed two electrical connectors doing nothing under the seat. Can anyone enlighten me what they are.... and can they be at all useful?
Thanks!

I know what you mean.... when I added some LEDs I was confused by what looked like spare connectors near the battery... didnt risk using them! Could they be for diagnostics?
The plot thickens...

Here is wiring around the battery on my 07 m50/800, the main feed which sits in the recess as you can see only serves the rear cluster one connector.(white)The other connectors are what I have fitted ie:alarm spare fuses (taped on batt)I do not know were your other connectors have come from, sorry can not help on that one.

Hello did you ever find out what the plugs are for,as i have got them on my m800. wont to put a alarm on it. Hi newbee
but..... that's only live when you turn the key. if you want a permanent live, you would have to tap into the battery. I'm sure others on here are far better qualified to offer an opinion on things like whther you should add a separate inline fuse etc....

I have now spent bloody hours researching the connector under the seat and have looked at the manual & electrical map but can see nothing to give me any positive indications. I can find various information from peoples personally beliefs on what this connector is but nothing factual. I have found & read both information that agrees and disagrees with where the OBD connection is and even whether we have one or not due to the ECM's ability to self diagnose and display current error functional codes on the dash itself. So as of right now, I am none the wiser but can actually see no benefit of an additional OBD diagnosis tool even if they were made to fit our bikes?

Thanks for looking Dave. It is a real mystery! I will just have to pretend it's not there!

I thought diagnostics tools just worked by taking a code and telling you what that code means rather than you having to look it up. Cause the Intruders have a code facility displayed as already mentioned wouldn't that be useless to have under most circumstances. I can see why a port would still be there to help mechanics that have the bike stripped down but even on a lot of cars you just get safety pin and bend it and stick one end in one hole and the other end in another hole in the massive port connection plugs they often have under the dash board somewhere to make the codes flash up. So I can see how the small plug under the seat could possibly work if it was for that with a machine to bypass the onboard display as it only require a two port or two wire connection to make it work. Still a bloody mystery tho, so common guys find out the facts rather than peoples opinions and put us out of our misery

I'm still in the thought it's for a diagnostic tool, after 2008/09 there's no tick over screw, so having a diagnostic socket gives mechanics the ability to talk to the ECU and make adjustments to idle speed other running operations above our control, Unless you have the Healtech processor and then you can do it on your own laptop.
I'll get my shovel out and dig a little deeper lol
