| Hey everyone- great site, glad I found it. New to the site, not new to the 800cc Suzukis. I bought my first VS750 Intruder, a 1986 model, in 1987, but traded it for a sportbike shortly after. Since then I have owned a 1992 VS800 Intruder bought new (sold it with 87,000 miles on the odometer in 1996); a 1996 VS800 Intruder I bought new (engine blew up at 132,000 miles on the odometer in 2004); a 2005 VS800 S50 I bought new (sold it with 35,000 on the odometer because frankly I was sick of VS800s); and now a 2006 VL800 C50 Special Edition I bought used about a year ago with 700 miles on it- over 40,000 miles on it now. I have gotten really good service out of the Suzuki cruisers, and have riden to all 48 lower states plus a chunk of Canada on them during the last 20 years. The VL800 is a nice change from the VS800- not nearly as fast and peppy, but a LOT more comfortable for my aging bones. Here is the old girl- I added a light bar from a C90 to her since this pic. Heading over to checkout the garage area and everyone's mods. Hope to learn some good things and get some good ideas. Hope I can help by sharing some of my 30+ years of mechanical experience also. | |

| Welcome! I'm new here too, but I must say that I'm jealous of all the miles you put on your bikes. And the headlight fairing looks amazing! Normally I don't like any extra fairings at all, but that looks great! | |

| Thanks everyone for the welcomes and the compliments on the bike The fairing is from Memphis Shades. I got if for free from a customer who wrecked his VL1500. The brackets were broken but they would not have fit my VL800 anyways, and the scratches on the fairing did not bother me as I needed to sand and paint it to match anyways. I painted it pearl white to match the bike, then added a little silver and gold pinstripe to go with the silver and gold ghost flames on the C50 Special Edition. The backside got painted black, and I made the windscreen out of some black lexan I had laying around the shop. I then made some brackets out of scrap aluminum and some old windshield clamps, which not only saved be about $250 on ordering some, but I was able to lay the fairing back to make it more sleek & aerodynamic than most batwing fairings. Behind th fairing is a three-bag windshield pouch; a throttle lock made out of a chrome offset cam lever I found in the junk drawer; and some 250 watt per channel waterproof speakers wired to a 500 watt Pyle amp under the seat and a thumb wheel volume control under the right switch box. Also fitted to the bike are chrome tank trim; Suzuki accessory engine guards; a chrome luggage rack; a lightbar I got at a swap meet for $2 (it went to an Intruder 1500LC and was broken, but I fixed it and made it fit); bullet front turn signals; a chrome plate frame with brake light; a hidden 'dealer mode' switch I made; some little pegs on the floorboards to hook the heels of my boots to when I stretch out; and some fake leather saddlebags. Instead of buying pipes and a power commander, I drilled the stock exhaust and reprogrammed the stock FI controller through the YAFMS port. Oh, I also cut that lump out of the seat pan where it pressed against my tail bone. I can post instructions to any of these mods if anyone wants. | |
