Hi !

Hello from me. I`m not yet an owner, but am looking to buy a VX800.
 I`ve been an owner of several bikes in the past, but not yet a Suzuki. Yeah, I`m not starting out very well on this forum am I? Maybe you`ll all forgive my past mistakes if I end up with you all here? 
Anyway there`s one particular VX800 due to be seen tomorrow that has me interested. It`s 1990 with about 50k miles on it. BUT there is a fault on it. The seller says it`s related to the clutch or gearbox. So have a look-see tomorrow then decide whether or no to have a gamble on it? Guessing the problem won`t be evident without a strip down, but . . well.. See how it looks, see what the seller seems like, see if I`m feeling lucky...
From reading other posts the clutch seems to be a bit problematic on these models? I`m hoping nowt else too drastic needing a full engine split, but tomorrow morning may give some clues.

Don't worry about slight clutch slip - if that's the 'issue' on the VX you are looking at - It can most probably be fixed at nominal cost.

Good man, pleased you bought it and have joined us.

I`ll start a thread in the "General Maintenance" section about my new/old VX800, if that`s in order? As a taster I`ll say I haven`t actually seen it yet. It came up for sale nearish to a mate of mine who has gone and done the deed on my behalf. He is less likely than me to view thro rose tinted specs. 
From the ad it`s had carbs rebuilt, new front fork seals, steering head bearings replaced, comes with leather tank cover and tank bag. New tyre on front and good `un on the back. 1990 87000km. Looks pretty stock. Maroon. 
He checked it over and suspects the problem reported is most likely the drive shaft... An `alf `our with a few spanners may confirm that diagnosis. Also needs a new rear disc and pads. One of side plastics cracked. Oil leak from sensor. 
It`s now en-rte to my mate`s place, and I`ll arrange to get it anon.

Looking forward to you write up, must feel like xmas. 

Don't worry about the areas you post in to much, you will get used to the site soon. Anything that is not correctly posted in the right area. Either myself, Captain Crash, Simbo or Mike will move it.

OK. I`ll keep posting here on the topic of this purchase and trust you to correct me. Any repairs etc I`ll try to put in the relevant place. 
 Feels like xmas? Yep, some feeling of anticipation here. Tempered by a slight gnawing in the pit of my stomach in case it`s an absolute lemon! 
 Anyway my mate now has the bike at his place. (taken in back of a Ford Transit).  Tis all now registered in my name etc. He`s had it running with back wheel in the air through all the gears. Says there`s lots of backlash in the transmission and  some clunking from prop. We`re guessing u.j. or splines on shaft. I`m quietly confident that he`ll not be able to keep his curiosity at bay and will have the back wheel out before long. Huh, opening my prezzie!  Anyway that`ll give me a chance to source parts needed, hopefully. 
The vendor seems to be a genuine guy, using this bike for work, while his Harley was reserved for weekends. Bike was insured until last month. He said it was recovered back to his place, rather than ridden when the problem occurred. 
 I don`t expect to be able to trailer it to my place for a coupla weeks, as it`s about a 4hr drive each way. 
 Intend to use it as a weekend toy, rather than a ride to work hack, and that only on sunny days. I`m too old, stiff, and bad tempered already without chilblains, numb fingers n toes, to wind me up further. Call me a wimp if you want, but I`m a warm wimp.

Welcome on board gtland.  Congratulations on your new purchase - if you have any problems, you're bound to be able to find someone here that can point you in right direction

 Yes Sir ! That`s me. Had a nice hot shower and sat here in a thick dressing gown in front of a warm radiator. Effing June tomorrow too!

Sunday morning 14/06/2015. My project arrived here yesterday. I`m going to put up a thread about it on engine gearbox etc.
