Had the Triumph a year so fancied something different. Owned a DL a few years back and liked it - this is a newer model. Done 500 miles since last Wednesday. Great to ride and thrives on poor roads which we seem to have a lot of in Wales! Took it down to the sea front for a pic so thought I'd post it.

Hi John, Nice to see you've settled on your change of bike...... looks interesting. I've ridden the DL1000, but not the DL650 .... should be a versatile machine, especially on the bumpy back roads ..... sounds like you've been enjoying it with 500 miles under your belt already ..... good on ya

I found the 650 had plenty of go in it and the miles per gallon is superb !

Any updates/reviews John? I'm guessing you've still got the DL and not changed for something else that caught your eye yet

On 1600 miles now Sim. Strips worn nearly to the edge on the rear - this bike leans nicely. She sits solidly at high speed with hardly any vibes. But it's real forte is cutting through the city traffic. Fitted Suzuki hand guards which should help in the winter and actually improved the airflow. Took the plunge and bought a relay ready for the heated grips. Wiring was a bit of a fiddle faddle but with advice from V-Strom forum members, I am now able to switch off the grips with the ignition. It was pretty clear early on that the exhaust needed to be changed so I have fitted a Fuel 3/4 system which has made a big difference. Loving the DL - all the bike I need for the sort of all weather urban jungle style riding I do. Stand up on the pegs too and bought some adventure boots! Anyway here's a video of the exhaust install:

Great bike. The Desert has a few nice extras. One complaint might be snatchy throttle at low speed which some forum members report (Tre cures apparently) but a test ride would reveal if this is true. Some good info on here: http://www.v-strom.co.uk/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=108

If you like camping Sim you can see loads of vstroms and their owners at the annual get together in Wales at end of Aug.

I get the feeling you guys are trying to get rid of me! Yeah the 1000 will be snatchy around 3k just like the SV was, A TRE sorts that out though like the forum says, Stonking engine all the same! I'll have to book a test ride and see if I can reach the floor with that 33.5 inch seat height
ps. Camping? Behave! The only reason I'd have an Adventure Bike is so I can bump up the curb to get closer to the cash machine! well, that and they're bloody good all round bikes.

I think Suzuki do a free lower seat swap on the 1000.

Nice looking bike - very practicable as well. Is that the same lump that's in the SV?

Same engine in various stages of tune as the SV/Gladius650 and SV/TL1000 although the 1000 has gone slightly larger from a 996 to 1037 since 2014.
