Filter Cover Chrome

Chrome is lifting from my Filter Cover. Any idea what I can do. Thinking maybe I can peel it all off and paint it black. I don't know what caused it.

Peel it off Tex, & spray it.  Be careful - when my cousin did mine, he said the shards were sharp buggers & cut his fingers a few times.  Chroming on plastic is never the best - I had all mine done

Thanks for help guys. I don't know what caused it. Seems to start from the bolt hole. I haven't checked if it in a bind are maybe to tight.I will probably just peel it and Paint. think i will wait until Winter is over.

I wonder what's causing it to come loose?

Contaminant during the original chroming process?

Fuel vapour? I've only seen it occur on the fuel tank consol and earlier air filter cover, strange why it should happen after so many years?.
