| I want to put a usb port on the bike mainly for a sat nav, I only want it live with the ignition on, would it be ok to wire it to the dipped headlight wiring and if yes should I had an in-line fuse or is that not needed as the dipped beam would be fused anyway, thanks in advance | |

| I would think you need an inline fuse because the fuse on the dip beam will be a much higher rating than would be required for the satnav/USB. | |

| Just checked the wiring diagram, the horn has its own fuse (10amp) and looks like it is live when the ignition is on and beeps when the button is pressed which has means it has a switched ground. So put a multi-meter on the Brown/Black wire and check its voltage when you turn the ignition on/off. | |

| Originally I had a regular USB on the intruder... fitted for exactly what you plan - satnav. I ended up with my satnav acting up, and all garmin could suggest was that the power lead was damaged.... I'm now wondering if it didn't like the damp, Because it was a regular car power lead like this... Whereas the satnav I now use has a bike specific power lead which you hard wire in. Just a thought. Good luck Mal | |

Had the same problems as Mal with a lead and socket connector on a VN1500 so I simply bought a USB plug. Pops into the socket, uses the charger lead that came with the satnav and I can run accessories such as Airbed pump at rallies. The socket can also be removed very easily. Simples :)

| I have a handlebar twin socket USB & single lighter socket & also have an Optimate lighter socket in the left pannier that plugs into the battery charger flying lead. | |

| I'm young enough to remember to just charge my phone overnight and don't have a need for any sockets | |

Pah.....kids! It was 4 old pennies in my day. Mind you, my auto pairing, bluetooth, hands free, speaker phone, steering wheel contacts OK button, auto radio muting, usb charge while you drive, let everyone hear it ringing for miles, remind you to take your mobile when you stop, new motor's infotainment feature is brilliant! Fuck the old days!
