* False Swing Arm Removal Instruction - Suzuki C800 / C50 *

This is one of the easiest mod's that can be done to the 800 and took only 15 minutes in total, which included time to get the tools out and put them away again! There is no point in having the extremely heavy false swing arm on the bike as it is their simply for cosmetic symmetry.

First off remove the side cover, mine is chrome but they are normally plastic. They attach with one 10mm bolt at the top and 2x push lugs. So undo the bolt and pull firmly on the cover and it will come away easily.



Now when you look behind where the cover was you will see 2x 10mm bolts that need to be removed



In Mistress K's thread, she said removing these was a knuckle scraper but I found that using a small socket set with an extention bar you can get to these bolts easily.



Now remove the 2x 10mm bolts that are forward facing and your nearly there.



Lastly remove the big bolt on the side using an 8mm Hex/Allen key and remove the swing arm. Replace the side cover by pushing firmly to position the 2x push lugs and secure the bolt at the top & your all done!

If you look you will see that I sprayed the 8mm Hex/Allen bolt silver to match in better, as leaving it dark grey would have made it stand out to much. I did actually spray it before I started the mod & baked it for a short time to harden the paint. At some point I will replace it with a hrome bolt.

Its a shockingly easy mod to do and cleans up the arse end & in turn makes cleaning easier. Plus its bloody heavy and serves no purpose.

On earlier models of the intruder the false swing arm was actually made of plastic.

Yep ... mine's plastic mate as you commented when you sorted my rear pegs out. It's there only to make the bike look like a hardtail but as I like the look and as mine weighs nothing, there's really no point in removing it.

Dave out of curiosity, I know you have not got the diff on that you pictured above as you now have the VS1400 diff on instead but do you still have plans to tart up the diff that this mod has now very much exposed?

Yes the exposed diff was always part of a decorative plan that as of yet I still have not done or completed my thinking on. I did have a plan but that has now gone out of the window as Marcin has exposed his skills with decals. It will now be sprayed black as it was previously going to be but now have some Maraggie decals fitted on as well before finally being lacquered. I have been at times messing with some idea's for the exposed Diff from this false swing arm removal modification. When I have finally decided on what I want, I will discuss this with Marcin & let him make it better.   However I need to take any diff contours into consideration when completing what I want which might be simpler than I have made it sound.

I used a plastic, mushroom head button for the hex bolt, with a few spots of glue.
I sprayed it with Hammerite smooth silver, that, by a happy coincidence, is the exact colour match to our bike's drive casing.   nice.
