| A post that someone wrote in a thread last week got me thinking about replacement seats for the bike & to be honest if I am going to spend that kind of cash I would rather spend it else where on my bike. So I started thinking about getting it re-sponged with something a little more forgiving and possibly have it re-covered at the same time but that’s also cash I would rather spend else where on the bike so I thought I will have a go myself at making the stock seat a little more comfy. I went to a local upholstery shop and asked for their advice on how I could at least hold off the numb bum for a little extra time while out riding and the lady said “ my dear all you need to do is add an inch of good quality seat foam over the top of the existing seat pad and I am sure you will be much happier” So I left the shop with a 1” deep piece of her finest foam and set about making my bum a little happier. I took a template from the top piece of the seat and cut the foam to fit it exactly. I tapered of the underside of the foam before placing it under the seat cover so as to ensure that you could not tell that additional padding had been added and stapled the cover back on. I had to stretch the cover a little more than usual to ensure it fitted exactly as before the mod. I then put the seat back in to position placed my rather large posterior on my newly modified seat and what a difference, the seat is noticeably more comfortable from the off. I am sure my arse will thank me many times over for this simple modification and I hope this thread encourages anyone else that is a numb bum sufferer to do the same. I timed myself at the point of entering my workshop and the mod was 1hr 2min from start to finish.

| Gotta say Mr Intuder Sir, I really do admire you! You are constantly coming up with either new mods or ways to improve the 800. That's one that even the likes of me could and will do, a few quid to get rid of sore arse syndrom is a few quid well spent. Simple but very affective, cheers | |

| Some times is the simplist tasks that give you the biggest heebie jeebies, I know what you mean It does kinda prove what a brick the stock seat is when the oldies have to make up granny cushions to protect their piles | |

| How is your seat mod holding up Mr I, has the seat foam gone flat or is it still holding up and still as comfy? | |

| Still as good as the day I did it and I never suffer from the numb bum attacks that I used to with the stoc seat before I re-padded it. I have pictures of the seat stripped down and how I added the foam some where which I will dig out some time and post here | |

| Hey Mr Intruder, what makes you think your derrier needs more padding, and there is a "k" on the end of stock, (see me after school behind the bike sheds young man), hi folks its Doc Cox back with a bang, sorry for my lack of contact things have been busy here at the laboratory, good to see the forum is going from strength to strength, Mr Intruder yours must be the most pesonally modded bike in the the forum and believe me folks it,s all good quality, have you obtained the 40mm pipe to make the exhaust mod yet ? has anyone done a Rat Intruder yet ? or one would look good in satin black, have been loking at battery desulphaters and built one last week that is currently working away on an old battery, will let you all know how it goes, a lot of batteries that go for scrap could be revived and used again, the unit is very simple to build and cheap plus compact, if anyone is interested go to Yuku and just look for desulphaters, well that,s enough of my ramblings take care all and watch out for Volvo drivers, regards Doc Cox, E=mc2 | |

| Just been reading another thread where John mentioned my seat mod, so I thought I would give an update. The seat has been well and truly tested now and I love it as much as the day that I did it. Before adding the extra foam to the stock seat I would be getting a numb bum after just over half an hour or so and I can say that the stock seat was held in the highest disregard by myself. I think Mr Suzuki must have taken the attitude that where there's pleasure there must be pain, well he definitely got that right on both counts. Since adding the extra foam to the seat I can ride for hours before I am in the same level of discomfort that was there before after 30/40 minutes. I would highly recommend that everyone does this mod as the benefits are huge compared to the couple of quid it costs for some descent foam. All you need to do is remove the seat, pull the staples out of the cover, put the foam in and re-staple it. You do need a descent stable gun to do this though but if anyone is in my area and a little dubious about doing it themselves, they can pop around to me and I will do it for them for the price of the foam. | |

| Hey guys, Ever heard of the Air Hawk Air cushon by ROHO. I brought one for the missus who rides pillion, last year for our trip around the south island and she swears by it. She says it's the Best $200 I've spent on the bike for her. It fits onto a custom pillion seat I made that only has 1" of soft foam that she cant bear to sit on for 5min without the cushon. The company that makes them, makes cushons for invalids that sit all day in wheel chairs and those cost $800 plus.
The original pillion seat was crippling her on full day rides, so I made her one that supported her wide bum. I also have to admit that I have another on my wish list for our next holiday. | |

| Yes I have heard of them but didn't want to spend that kind of cash on a cushion that would not visibly enhance the look of the bike. The descent quality foam I added under the seat cover was as already said only £3.99 and was very comfortable indeed even on very long journeys. Air hawk pads do look very good but I see £200 as the best part of a new aftermarket replacement seat or the next add on for the bike. | |

| Just done this Mod today, to be fair my seat didn't feel to bad, but the Duchess had been complaining, got some 1" memory foam, cut it to shape, placed under the waterproof cover and refit, can't tell the covers have been off Mind seeing my work life is an upholsterer, it didn't tax me to much, good job it were nowt to do with spanners, or that's me knackered ! Any body not feel like there up to the task, living near lancs area, bob it round and I'll sort it, like Dave says for the price of the foam, and I won't charge for the brew | |

| Nice offer Dave & chuffed you did it as it really does make a difference to comfort, especially for trips over 30 minutes or so. No body would ever realise that anything had been altered from a visual point of view. I had forgotten about this mod, my arse hadn't though. | |
