Subject: Luggage rack for 2010 M800, what options are there ? Sun May 25, 2014 7:27 pm
I´m asking on behalf of a friend who bought a brand new 2010 M800.
He has ordered the seat tail cover and would like a luggage rack which follows the curve of the cover. He does not want to modify the cover with screw holes and so on, but would like it to be subtle enough to leave it on all the time.
What options are there to choose from, except for the one mounted on the sissybar ?

Hi Kim With those kind of options, i think (maybe i am wrong, correct me) you or your friend cannot get it on the market sales. The better solution is building one from zero.
This solution probably will be a good start:
Assuming that the rear fender is the seat cowl. The screws and fitting holes and so on will be get it from the standard ones on the lateral curved chrome sides on the M800 fender.
Of course it's only an idea, ok?

Thx for the suggestion.
The problem is that he has no mechanical skills at all, and I dont have the time to make him one.

Hi Kim: Well this is a problem for your friend indeed. And i think if he will have or us other "bike more commercial" then thousand stores and shops will have it or can build one for sure. I had a Busa for 12 years and i could make it as i wanted only with some things i bought (ok, too many) on online stores and shops .

A tricky one for sure! Once the seat cowl is fitted all the fixing points are hidden unless you start drilling? not an option really! Something like this could be an option if it was blacked out?
Failing that, I'd be inclined to go with cutting the sissy bar off this type of thing just above the rack and blocking the holes off with a couple of bungs then blacking it out? Not much use I know, I've never seen any aftermarket products fitting the description your friend is after though?

Hi,
This is how Highway Hawk Solo Rack looks like on my M800 with Mustang fender bib. The rack comes with adapter for C800, so I had to do my own because of that, and also because I have Mustang seat, which needs different attachment plate anyway. So this option requires some metal-bending, not much though...

Thx for your suggestions, I'll see what we come up with.
I think it is weird though, that the selection is so limited for the 2009-2014 models.

oh, now I noticed, I seem to have read the original post too quickly, you asked rack for 2010 model, not 2007, like I looked your bike year under avatar...

No worries, I think I will do something similar to my own bike, and my friend will properly buy the first one in Simbo's post.
But another thing. What's up with that super clean garage you have your bike in  , it makes my garage look like a scrapyard with tools and stuff all over.

Haha, that's actually my brother's garage, and all the scrap there was hiding behind my back, when I took the shot, so if you just could see the whole place...but it will be nice and clean later, and I will be visiting him quite often to modify my bike. He has lots of tools and bike lift, which is a must...

Sim, have you got a link for the second photo please? I want/need a sissybar like that but can't seem to find one with the google searches I've made. The arse end of the 2010> M800 doesn't seem to be catered for that well with aftermarket parts.

Isn't the www.motorcyclewebsite.co.uk the same as customcruisers.com ? Only you get a 10% site discount if ordering through customcruisers.com.

I can't find anything for the 2010> M800 on the motorcyclewebsite and with the customcruisers site I follow all the links in for M800 2010> to sissybars, racks etc and then it tells you that they are only for up to 2010!! Does anybody actually do racks or sissybars with racks for the newer model M800??

The only place I've found anything so far is on ebay by BS-motoparts-uk and it comes from Germany. For some strange reason it only covers from 2010 to 2012? I wasn't aware the M800 changed any after that year though? In the meantime I've emailed custom cruisers to ask whats going on with the 2010> racks etc. I'll give them a couple of days to get back to me and if not I'll give them a call.

this one looks quite nice, you'd have to give them a ring to see if they do a rack though? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-M800-INTRUDER-VZ800-2010-up-SHORT-LOW-BACKREST-SISSY-BAR-523-4040-/121537560609?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item1c4c340021

It would seem so Jose, the later 800 has very limited options from what I've seen.

I'm thinking of a luggage rack for a M50 (M800) to mount a trunk box on and because the M50 has a very limited range of equipment for post 2010 models about the only solution I see is to take a pre-2010 luggage rack and mounts and redrill the mounting plates to 200 mm.

Have now been all through the project of mounting a large trunk box and saddlebags on my 2012 M50 (M800). The different bolt hole centres, the taper of the mounting points and that this is a very limited availability bike means there is very little aftermarket stuff available for the M50/M800 >2010.
Had mounting plates made up out of 6 mm marine aluminium, drilled them to 200 mm and spaced them out on the mounting points on the M50 so they were parallel and gave a nice wide mount for the trunk box. The top box looks high, especially without the saddlebags, because I have an AirHawk pad mounted on the pillion seat and that meant mounting the trunk box about 60 mm higher.
