Helmet hand luggage??

Hi guys.. bit of a random question...

Has anyone taken their helmet as hand luggage (and if so with BA?).  Have to go away for a few days later in the year and the motorcycle parking in Heathrow is free.. but i don't have a box on the bike for my lid.

I must admit I've used the free bike parking at Manchester airport a couple of times, and as the bike parking is under cover, I just risked locking the helmet to the bike, and crossed my fingers a minging pidgeon wasn't nesting in it when I got back!

I have taken my helmet in my hand luggage, many times with  many different airlines without any problems.

Cheers guys and thanks for the info.  I didn't think of locking it to the bike (Still fairly new to all this).  It is only a couple of days so that could be a good option :)

If you do decide to just lock it to the bike, but don't like the position of the built in lock, or maybe it's difficult to get if because of panniers, I've often used a luggage cable lock, allowing you to put the helmet on a sissy bar backrest, open side down, then lock it to some other part of the bike. (They do some with much longer cables, but I couldn't find a listing on eBay)

Tip of the day...If you leave it locked to the bike? Put a manikins head in it and paint the neck red. That should deter any thieves

fOLKS HAVE TAKEN RACING BIKE ENGINES ON BEFORE SO A HELMET SHOULD BE EASY PEASY!
