Hi my 1993 VX800 cannot now be ridden. I can start the bike (with side stand up or down, but as soon as I put it into gear it stalls (with side stand up or down. I've checked the side stand switch wires and they show an open circuit with the stand up or down. Is that normal? I thought about jumping the two connectors where it goes into the loom but not sure if this would have any unwanted effects? Has anyone abandoned the side stand switch altogether? I've had lots of bikes and many have not had such a switch - although I realise it is a good safety feature.

I haven't got the VX800 wiring but it should be similar to the VZ800.
By rights the Side stand switch should be shorted with the stand up otherwise it will lose power to the coil when you put it into gear. If just short the 2 pins at the side stand connector it should prove the point. It just switches ground.

Hi Glyn, definately get a new sidestand switch or even a second hand one off ebay etc, driving off with the sidestand down could be very dangerous.

Think mine has been looped somewhere by previous owner... the wires for the side stand and the clutch are not connected to anything. do not know if it makes a difference doesn't seem to?
Except the neutral light seems to stay on most of the time now - didn't when I first got it 3 months ago.
