All Electrical Dies When Engine Gets Hot Empty
PostSubject: All Electrical Dies When Engine Gets Hot   All Electrical Dies When Engine Gets Hot Icon_minitimeSat Oct 07, 2023 1:51 am

So here's the situation. Took the bike out for the first time last Saturday. Engine runs strong, and the carburetors are perfectly tuned (used an AFM gauge and wideband oxygen sensor). And the carbs are synced as well. But the problem is not how the bike performs. It's something else, which has me scratching my head.

Pulled into a parking lot to turn around, and the bike just died. No lights, no anything. Got off of the bike to see if I could see anything with the wiring, and couldn't find a thing. But when I got back on the bike the dash lights came back on. Tried to start the bike and the solenoid just clicked. And I noticed that when I was moving around on the seat the dash lights would go off and on again.

Called a friend to come and take me home so I could get my trailer. All in all, it took about 2 hours to get back to the bike. By now it had enough time to cool down. Was showing my friend what was going on and the bike started right up.

When I got it home I pulled off the seat and tank and checked every connection on the bike. Original ones as well as new ones that I added for the lighting upgrades. But could not get the bike to reproduce the fault. Even let it run for quite a while, at idle, to see if it would get hot and die again. But it just kept on purring away like it should have.

Have gone over the wiring, tugging and pushing on every wire and connection, several times over the last week, but still cannot get the bike to reproduce the problem. However, I did reroute some wires and relays to locations where I thought there was less of a chance of them being interfered with when I put the tank and seats back on.

So, has anybody come across a situation like this, where the electrical system dies, but works fine again after the bike has cooled down? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
