| Today I started removing parts from my bike to start the process of removing the rear light and positioning an different one elsewhere, First of all I took the light, fender and rails off to get more of an idea how it all goes together and how I'd fill the big fuck off crater behind the rear light? Then I packed fibre glass in the holes from both sides so it sandwiches the fender in between to stop it dropping out, Then I drilled about twenty 3mm holes around the edge of the recess for the light and other various points, so the filler squeezes through the holes to create a key, (sorry no photo) Next, I built it up with 2 pack filler slightly proud of the crater, Then got the palm sander on it to get the profile of the fender, Far from finished yet, but I'm onto the fine filling stage and hand sanding to make sure it feels ok. I'll update as and when I do some more. | |

| Looks like you are again doing a very good job Sim, as you did when you removed the Indicator and reg light unit. Really looking forward to seeing this finished as it will potentially look so bloody cool with the rear light gone as well. | |

| But then I got the frown from Jo and quickly forgot that idea The Queen speaks Very good job Sim. I am jealous. I wish I had the ability to do that. Did you decide to go with the Tear Drop. I think it will be very nice and clean when you get it done. I have been thinking about adding some Red accent to my Trike. On the fenders and tank. If I try it I think I will try PlastiDip. | |

It's on my watch list, but I've not decided yet? I want something special but haven't come across one that really takes my fancy yet.

| I'm sooo making that mod this winter!
Got my spare fender so I can experiment as much as I want.
I'm thinking of having something like this one, two vertically. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-MOTORCYCLE-LED-REAR-TAIL-BRAKE-STOP-LICENSE-NUMBER-PLATE-LIGHT-CUSTOM/261275755652?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D74%26meid%3D2158456969539925749%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1048%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D181142171438%26#ht_2301wt_1004 Black out the screws, sink it into fender and it should look cool.
Then again, if I want to go for gold/red colour paint later, that might not fit well at all.
Can't wait to start :) | |

| Cheers guys I must admit lol I was shitting my pants when I first filled the hole that the light left behind Especially when Jo came in the garage and said, your either stupid or talented taking on something like that! Only another 12 coats and a shit load of rubbing down before it's ready for fitting lol 95% prep, 5% spraying as they say Loving it so far though! Tex, No real decision on a light yet to be honest, Still scouring Ebay trying to find that special something. Mal, god knows how I got the curve right first time?!?! beginners luck | |

| If you cant decide on a nice one for the rear or on the led idea you can just fit the number plate with the lights on the side mount | |

| Thanks for looking Arron I was hoping to not fix anything to the fender really, If I have a chrome light I'll put it above the side mounted reg plate? I've ordered some LED strips to see if it's an option to fit them in the fender? I fancy something like this type of thing but with a black face, then once it's sunk in the fender, they wouldn't be easily noticed until lit. | |

| Cheers guys Marcin, I was hoping to get 6 coats of lacquer on today, Then flat it down smooth with no orange peel before giving it another 2 coats and then use rubbing compound and a polisher to bring it to a nice finish, I only managed 3 due to fatherly duties, So I'll flat it down again before getting another 3 on, then flat it down before finishing with the final 2, What grade would you recommend sanding between coats? 800 or 1200? Also, would you use a lubricant in the water, or just water for flatting down between coats? Cheers. | |

| By my reckoning I'd do no lower than 1200. 1500-2000 for the final polish due to minimal amount to be taken off. I guess it depends on the lacquer as well and if you laid it thick or just misting over. With so many layers I'd probably try to lay a wet one on to see if it will level out on its own before going in with sanding. What lacquer are you using? Normally you work to a specific timeframe with these ie layer every 15 minutes or so. Does your allow you to leave it overnight? I'm guessing it does.
Please take my pointers with a pinch of salt, I'm no pro :)

| I was thinking a very careful 800 lubricated next, to get flat again, then 3 coats with a 15/25 mins between coats, each coat blends into the last, forming one so to speak, then a flat down with a very careful 1000 before the final 2 coats, then flat down with a 1200 before buffing and polishing 4 days later? I don't fancy wet coating it really, I'd rather just spend time on the last two coats bringing it up nice without the risk of a run/sag to contend with Pro? Nor am I mate lol I've been at it about 30 hours already! all good fun though | |
