Sorry mate, no updates    Busy week, Should make progress over  the weekend though 

Your work on this fender is inspirational and I will do the same thing this winter.
I wouldn't be myself if I didn't try to push it further though so with that in mind I will be actually taking a mold out of the rear one and will attempt re-shaping into taildragger.
They're way too expensive so I'll make my own.... and besides "my own" sounds so much better.

Here it is with a rub down and 6 coats up to now   now I've just got another rub down so it's silky smooth :aghh: Then another 2 coats tomorrow (8 total) and a few days to dry off before rubbing down and buffing up.

That's a lot of rubbing down my friend  

Love the results though.

cheers  I'll hopefully have it finished for next weekend, I'll put it back on temporary to take a few pics of what it will look like on the bike.

ps. I'm sick of rubbing down lol

Hey Sim, re the choice of rear light, have you considered some little torpedo ones mounted to the fender struts like in marcins taildragger piccie?  Not sure where you'd get them...

Thanks for your kind comments guys  I love the look of the bikes rear end now and even surprised myself with the results   This mod hasn't gone without it's setbacks though?? When I first filled it and got it all primed up ready for the finishing coats, I left it perched on the workmate in the garage thinking all would be fine and dandy? When I returned from work on Monday evening, Calum my stepson had removed his push bike from the garage, In doing so, he slammed the garage door knocking the fender off it's pedestal onto the highway peg of the bike  Resulting in a crack and dent to the existing filler from when I removed the reg plate! Boy did I moan about it   It took me all Saturday to get back to where I was originally lol Probably a blessing in disguise really, I was never 100% happy with the filling to the reg plate removal, So this time I got it right  with the added bonus of a day chunnering   Thanks again guys

Opinions please, I'm thinking along the lines of sinking 4 LED micro lights into the fender, 2 for back light and 2 for brake light, each micro light contains 6 LED's and seem pretty bright, I was thinking of having them in a line with the two outer ones for back light and two inner one's coming on for more intensity when the brakes are applied, I'm open to opinions though, I'll darken the lens with lens tint so they're black when not lit, is the lighting idea legal? is this lens tint legal? or should I just go for a light above the side mount reg? Cheers

But won't it visually shrink the fender? I mean having a line down the middle will create that illusion.

That looks great Sim & I love the way you have it thought out & believe it will be legal and great looking.  

I keep reading unoficial stuff that says it has to be EU marked but I believe that is wrong.

This information may come in useful Vehicle Lighting Regulations (1989) Sorry I can't be bothered to read it. My MOT guy has said that he only has to check that lights work where they should in a correct manor and be clearly visible.

Dunno Marcin? I was hoping they wouldn't be really visible when not in use, the outer lens will be flush with the fender and lens blacked out hopefully :what1:

I got 4 LED strips over my bikes rear wheel area and the wires are a lot thinner than those and they have done several thousand miles OK. My lights wires are just like the ones that you can see in Sim's picture but without the outer sheath.

I think so Mal, the wires are covered in a reasonably thick plastic sheath, as for the lights, they wont actually go through the fender, they're positioned at the lowest point of the filler from the light removal, and they'll only sit 6mm into it, to bring the surface flush.

With a bit of imagination you could use one of these LINK and use the same leds as parkers as well as brake lights. You would need a relay so that there is 12V on the white wire when the brake is not in use and the 12v is removed when the brake is applied. It could be done with a transistor but you need to have someone that is good with a soldering iron to do the job.

That looks very good, better than in a line I believe. Will look much more conventional when done & illuminated.

O yes now that will look the dogs bollox and would still look that way even if you had double the amount of lights in there. The idea of fitting a flush light in that way was inspirational   your bike is gunna have the wow factor 

This is how they'll look when lit, The vertical two (or vice versa) will come on when the brake is applied

Now all you need to do is paint a cobra around it with the brake lights for the eyes.

now that looks fantastic, LEDs really are a massive blessing as far as modifying goes. They are very bright an do a great job well done.
